THE DOG : TRUE INNOCENT OR FORGOTTEN CULPRIT ?

Happy

In Switzerland, we have no coyotes and very few golden jackals, which, as we saw earlier, are slowly recolonizing the territory, keeping a low profile. Foxes, for their part, are responsible for only a few attacks (bites) on humans, despite their close and constant proximity. That leaves just one member of this group whose potential dangers to humans we haven't mentioned yet : the dog.

Of course, we have a great affection for dogs, which have been with us for almost 30,000 years and have become our faithful companions. Dogs help us with everyday tasks (guide dogs), protect our livestock, rescue people in danger, assist the police or simply keep family, lonely, elderly or sick people company. So we put a great deal of trust in them, a love which, as we shall see, can sometimes be to their detriment. But are we really aware of what goes on in everyday life with dogs, in our society ? Are we aware of the risks of incidents, the circumstances surrounding them and how we influence their occurrence ? Do we really know dogs, how they function, their instincts, their ways of communicating ?

As the subject is vast and deserves to be explored in greater depth, our dossier on dogs is more substantial, we decided to divide it into two parts :

NUMBERS AND BITES

ASSAULTS/INCIDENTS - WHAT OR WHO CAUSES THEM ?

It's imperative that the public read this report on dogs, as there are still far too few people aware of the reality on a daily basis, with the exception of veterinary and medical staff. And yet, with more in-depth knowledge and better prevention, we could not only avoid many incidents and their sometimes serious consequences, but also greatly improve the quality of life of our domestic canines.
